Visiting Eastern Missouri
Spirits are high in St. Louis and throughout eastern Missouri. There are all sorts of fun ways to get outdoors this time of year – countless activities surround the banks of the Mississippi River and destinations like Mark Twain National Forest are ripe for hiking and other explorations. What’s more, springtime sees local event calendars in communities from Hannibal to St. Robert fill with an abundance of fun for the whole family.
The St. Louis Rams may be packing up and heading west, but sports fans in the Lou are even more passionate about their St. Louis Cardinals – and baseball season is just getting started. After the 2016 Home Opener on April 11th against the Milwaukee Brewers, the Cardinals continue to swing for the fences at Busch Stadium in downtown St. Louis through the first weekend of October.
A longstanding local-favorite tradition, the 38th Annual Spring Art Fair at Queeny Park brings out the most vibrant of St. Louis culture, April 1st through 3rd. Browse the work of local and regional artists as they fill Queeny Park with color across three days of juried art shows. Vendors will also be on hand selling a variety of one-of-a-kind, handmade goods. The event starts at 5 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m. Sunday.
St. Louis is well known as the birthplace of Budweiser and the Anheuser-Busch Brewery, but on May 6th and 7th, the little guys get a chance. The 21st Annual St. Louis Microfest Beer Festival brings a host of hops and a bevy of barley to Lower Muny Parking Lot and Theatre Drive. Sample the suds of breweries both local and international while enjoying live music, local food offerings, a silent auction, and more. Pours start at 6 p.m. both nights.
Visitors in search of family-friendly fun in St. Charles look to the 2016 Historical Children's Festival at First Missouri State Capitol State Historic Site on May 21st. It’s a day of hands-on, educational activities, kids’ games, living history interpreters in period dress, arts and crafts demonstrations, and more, all starting at 10 a.m.
Welcome summer with a day of family-friendly fun at another historic site in Jefferson on June 25th. It’s the 40th Anniversary of the Jefferson Landing State Historic Site, and the celebration includes all kinds of games, kids’ activities, and live music on the front lawn of the Lohman Building front lawn in Jefferson City. Things get going around noon.
