George Washington Carver National Monument
Found just southeast of Joplin and north of Neosho, the George Washington Carver National Monument preserves the boyhood home of George Washington Carver – famed American scientist and inventor. Carver’s eastern Missouri home – including the Moses Carver house and Carver cemetery – was named a national monument in 1946.
Visitors can explore the 210-acre park via nature trail, on-site museum, and through several interactive workshops and student programs. Most notably, park volunteers lead groups into Carver’s secret garden for interactive visits, while students are encouraged to participate in a group painting or art workshop.
